Yes, but the end result of that protest was to elect an administration dismantling almost everything “liberals” believe in. The opportunity cost of your protest, with due respect, was rolling back climate protections, likely stacking the SCOTUS for a generation, doubling down on racist voter disenfranchisement and intimidation, rolling back civil rights protections, retrenching the War on Drugs etc. (and trust me I could go on for a week on this).

What matters more, “illiberal identity politics games” or rolling back the structures of an entire century of progress? We have to stop losing the plot. There is a huge functional difference between a wonky moderate establishment Democrat and Trump.

No disrespect at all, but that was all easily foreseeable, what price protest?

My larger point, however, was that we should be suspicious of the people fanning the flames of the division between liberals, progressives, and democrats because they are likely playing for the other team.
