Walk a Mile in Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Pantsuit Before Losing Your Mind
<Full disclosure, I voted for Bernie Sanders in the Michigan Primary but for Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2016 election. That said, I am not personally a huge fan of HRC>
Hillary Rodham Clinton received millions of more votes than did Donald J. Trump (no matter what Kris Kobach and his gang of officially sanctioned idiots says).
Think about that for a second, she got more votes than 45 despite facing the following list of barriers:
- The DNC losing the Gerrymandering battle for the last two decades (Bigly Significant, I talked with the author’s of the ‘Efficiency Gap’ study heading to the SCOTUS and they agreed it was a huge factor in the battleground states)
- The DNC losing the voter suppression battle for the last five years (not insignificant)
- The DNC losing the “Right to Work” battle over the last decade (hard to overstate the importance of this, it helped fuel the belief that Democrats weren’t there for Unions like Unions have been for Democrats)
- The DNC being caught up in the Wikileaks scandal and having to change leadership in the middle of the campaign
- Bernie Sanders followers voting Trump or sitting out
- Huge numbers of progressives following charlatans like Dr. Jill Stein (still waiting on her response to any argument I have made directly to her since 6 months before the election). This was not dispositive, but it mattered (one of many causes)
- Her own strange allergy to transparency (why not just release ALL the emails, or hand over the text of your speeches, or let them have the servers? Saying you have turned over more than anyone else is different than saying you will turn everything over)
- Comey (I mean this straight up mattered, totally absurdiculous and a traveshamocracy, it literally cost her the election)
- Huge amounts of Russian meddling (also straight up true regardless of if 45 colluded or did not)
- A terrible campaign strategy that almost entirely ignored the states her own campaign referred to as her “firewall states.”
- A terrible and uncharismatic set of campaign chairs (tell me you were once persuaded to change your opinion even once by either Podesta of Mook? I sure wasn’t and I voted for HRC)
Is she bitter, sure.
But come on, are you really saying she doesn’t have a right to be pissed? She certainly might have been her own worst enemy at times, but that is still a monumental MOUNTAIN of bullshit for anyone to overcome.
Let her have her public primal scream (or screams). Despite overcoming BS Mountain, she still lost (electoral college).
Not to mention, it kind of proves her point about sexism when every pundit seems to feel it is appropriate to tell her to just accept her loss, shut up, and go away.
And, we should all care because we have to fix this mess immediately or face another four years of more ‘Twitter diplomacy,’ Bannon (do you really believe he isn’t working with the President?), and Charlottesville's after the end of this four years (sigh).
Sensible post mortems might help us not make the same mistakes again.
One point to particularly emphasize, the Democratic National Committee could not have done a worse job over the last ten to fifteen years if they had been secretly working for the GOP.
If you want to know who is to blame, starting with a serious deep dive into the problems at the DNC wouldn’t hurt.
Regardless, it might do us some good to do a real post-mortem, and start fixing what appear to be massive problems in the Democratic Party. And let’s face it, Hillary Rodham Clinton might have some insight into what needs to change.
Also, why are we so obsessed with finding a sole smoking gun? There were a lot of factors (I listed over ten above) all of which mattered and all of which were less than awesome for Democrats and Progressive. We have lots of work to do, and getting all of the details will be critical.
