Virtually all television is itself an advertisement in the sense that it has become part of the socialization and normalization process through which people become indoctrinated into what is cool, fashionable, popular, etc.

Law and Order, for example, is a decades long advertisement for the relative fairness and essential importance of our criminal justice system.

Don’t get me wrong, I watch Netflix all the time too and I don’t miss the “every 15 minute” ritual of interruption.
