So Inured to Spin, We Miss The Point Again
Freedom isn’t free apparently.
There is kind of an odd illogical circularity to this argument we have been having about standing compulsively for Old Glory.
Our flag is a symbol of freedom but we ought not be allowed the freedom to refuse to stand for it.
Our flag is a symbol of freedom but somehow we honor that symbol by making the celebration of the symbol compulsory.
Some so-called ‘Presidents’ have said things like:
Tell them to stand? Or else what? Should NFL players ‘freedom’ not to stand be taken away? Or maybe their ‘freedom’ to earn a living (part of his celebration of “OUR GREAT AMERICAN WORKERS” apparently)?
