The President didn’t tweet much today, so let’s go with this one:
Believe it or not, I actually met Jerry Falwell Sr. once. What a bizarre experience.
Okay, so what did Jerry Falwell Jr. say today on the President’s beloved Fox and Friends this morning that was so important. Let’s check:
Plenty of crazy to pick apart here but lets focus on some non-Charlottesville stuff (plenty of folks picking apart the details on Charlottesville).
Rev. Falwell said: He <President Trump> says school choice is the civil rights issue of our time
I mean of course school vouchers have nothing to do with liberating African Americans, vouchers were born in white flight and racism and the idea that they are a solution to the problem of schools in communities of color is both disingenuous and dangerous. If you would prefer a funnier response to the movement for “School Choice” try this:
Okay, so that element of Falwell’s interview was nonsense. Anything else?
Mr. Falwell also said: “African American employment has skyrocketed since he <President Trump> become President.” Obviously, POTUS cannot have caused these numbers (unless you can tie cutting regulations directly to African American jobs) and he clearly isn’t responsible for the new jobs in the economy anyway, but it is also important to remember that employment doesn’t solve racism. Also, we know he can’t take credit for these numbers because Donald Trump himself told us they were inaccurate.
Okay, so let’s just conclude by saying Jerry Falwell wasn’t spectacular on Fox and Friends and also that Donald Trump is not exactly a race-relations savior.
