The four new albums that I enjoyed the most this week
Another week of great music for your ear holes
Here are four albums I really enjoyed this week (this week is much more male dominated than usual…hmm).
Protomartyr “Relatives In Descent”
I have been waiting for this album for MONTHS.
Protomartyr is my favorite Detroit band and Joe Casey is one of my favorite singers in alternative music today. It is really exciting to see them getting so much press and attention.
I have listened to every song as they were released. I have tweeted the tweets and I have promoted the release of Protomartyr’s new album every day for weeks. If you wish to purchase, here is the link to Protomartyr’s Bandcamp.
It is a GREAT album (I have already listened to it three times today) and I suspect that I will find new levels as I continue to listen. Enjoy!
Chain &the Gang “Experimental Music”
I have been a Chain & The Gang for a LONGGGGG time. Here is one of my favorite songs from their last album:
Anyway, Ian Svenonius and his merry band of miscreants have returned with ‘Experimental Music’ and while it is a bit uneven, I really enjoyed the first listen (I particularly liked “Come Over” and “I Hate Winners”). You can order or download a copy on Bandcamp.
Unsane “Sterilize”
Unsane have always been hard to ignore.
I still remember walking through Zia records in Tempe Arizona the first time I saw an Unsane CD. My first thought was, “what kind of band uses crime scene photos from murders as album art?”
I guess I was the CD version of a highway accident rubbernecker because I purchased ‘Scattered, Smothered, and Covered’ and have been a fan ever since.
‘Sterilized’ made me feel like I was taking a time machine back to the halcyon days when bands like Helmet and Unsane were redefining metal and translating it anew to punk rock geeks like me.
Welcome back Unsane!
Metz ‘Strange Peace”
Look, I clearly should have included the new album from Metz last week, it is (as you might expect) more ear bending noise rock from this unrelenting Toronto Trio.
You will certainly enjoy this if you, like me, worship at the altar of smart and angrily satisfying grunge and feedback filled rock and roll.
As an extra added bonus, I have to give huge props to this poster for Run the Jewels appearance at an Austin Music Festival. Can anyone name the two gangs from “The Warriors” represented in the poster (I sure can)?
Okay, that’s enough for today, I have to prepare myself for “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep 2: Electric Boogaloo.
