My Most Popular Writing of 2018
The pieces people actually read this year
I did not write as much this year as I have written in previous years. However some of my writing still seemed to resonate this year. Here are the most popular articles I wrote in 2018:
5. Black Mirror: Uploading Consciousness
I did a three part breakdown of the USS Callister Episode of Black Mirror as part of my ongoing recaps work on that series. You can read everything that I have written about Black Mirror here:
4. (Hostile to) Hostiles
Back in the good old days of Movie Pass, I was writing movie reviews. One movie I particularly disliked was the movie Hostiles starring Christian Bale.
You can check out my other movie reviews here:
3. Explaining The Great Prison Tablet Scam
Don’t trust private companies offering FREE tablets to people in prisons.
2. My Goal Was To Defend Spike Lee, But I Found Myself Agreeing with Boots Riley
My take on the dispute between Boots Riley and Spike Lee over Spike’s movie BlakkKlansman.
1. Shhh, Thanos Might Be A Bit Racist
Boy did people love to hate this article which I wrote as kind of a throw away a few minutes after I had first seen Avengers: Infinity War (It still gets hate comments even today…no seriously, it got a nasty comment today).
If I had it to do over again, I would have taken a bit more time on the math (which I admitted was a slight bit — not a large bit — off). But most of the criticism seemed to come from people who seemed to miss the point entirely (I wasn’t really arguing that Thanos or Marvel were racists, I was arguing that it was too soon after Black Panther — since so many kids loved Black Panther — to kill off (even temporarily) much of the cast of that movie.
Oh well, was it my best piece? No. Did people lose their minds in ways that kind of made me concerned? Yes.
Never great when your most “popular” piece was also your most hated piece, but it is what it is.
Most Reads: Series Orange Is the New Black S6
Overall, the most reads — by far — went to my long-running recap series of the Netflix show Orange Is the New Black. Here is Episode 1 (the rest are in the guide)
