A review with brevity (if not wit)
I saw the Post on Saturday night and I am still perplexed two days later.
Is The Post a good movie? I would have to answer yes.
Is The Post a great movie? I didn’t and still don’t think so.
Should you see The Post? I am very glad I saw it but I suspect people on the left and the traditional right will love it while Trump supporters will see it as an obvious attack on Trump (it was made with a clear slant).
If you were part of the “he-man women haters” club that came out en masse to bash Star Wars: The Last Jedi, this will definitely not be the movie for you (I guess you could watch 1950’s battle of the sexes comedies on TCM and not have your sensibilities offended?)
If you are a woman who has been ignored by men, talked over and down to by men, or underestimated by men, The Post could become one of your all-time favorite movies and for good reason (the early scenes when Kay Graham endures all of these indignities are all very powerful and I saw women literally crying in the theater).
These scenes affected me too, I think Mr. Spielberg did a wonderful job of using the past to emphasize the changes in culture that are still necessary for us to move forward on issues of gender in this country.
