Indeed it is — for those not in the know — the 13th Amendment makes slavery legal in the case of prisoners (and I think traitors) — the other Post-Civil War compromise is the 14th exception where states can disenfranchise voters who have committed crimes.

This is why, for instance, so many governments in the South started the racist system of mass incarceration, it was an easy way to “legally” disenfranchise voters of color.

And today…same as it ever was!!!!
