I agree with a lot of this and I am one of the 40 formerly incarcerated folks on the letter sent last week to the Senate Leadership in support of the First Step Act (and have been publicly for it on my podcast and in op-eds despite massive blowback).

The part I disagree with is the notion that POTUS 45 has passed the test anymore than the rest. I am thrilled he let Alice Marie Johnson out and I am working hard to ensure he lets Matthew Charles out, but his DOJ has still doubled down on the War on Drugs and Mandatory Minimums, he is still deporting and imprisoning our brothers and sisters in massive numbers, and he is packing the Federal Courts with tough on crime judges. His Attorney General just made a move to hire 113 more tough on crime prosecutors.

I agree with you on the 94 Crime Bill and Topeka is amazing.

Just saying, can’t trust it…but will take advantage of it to get people home (First Step Act).

At the same time, I do thank the President for sending Ms. Johnson home, that was a great thing.
