Hmm, that is odd, since I used to comment on articles on Grantland (I guess I could be wrong, but I vividly remember it). Even if I am wrong, two wrongs don’t make a right (and how could Medium force HBO to do anything they didn’t want to do?).
My argument was not that everyone gets the same platform, it was that everyone should have access to some platform (comments sections are secondary and subsidiaries of published articles) and that there are important benefits to encouraging more (not less) speech.
I am a professional writer and have multiple degrees, does that mean I should have been able to comment on Ringer articles? Or are there other rules I should know about too? Is mass communication best when only elites have access to the means of mass dissemination? Do people only qualify to have valuable and important experiences to share after they finish college and compete for a job at the Ringer?
I don’t mean to sound entirely hostile, but I vociferously disagree with your argument. We can certainly agree to disagree. Thanks for the response.
