An oddly good Ohio band unstuck at the intersections

Saintseneca (Anti-)

I like music that feels like a flavorful stew more than music that follows pre-defined genre rules (for instance, can anyone explain to me why Weezer is actively trying to fit into the strict confines of the Pop Punk genre now?).

Anyway, Saintseneca have this new single “Book of the Dead for Sale” which I really like. I liked it so much I had it lead off my newest playlist (fyi, I put out weekly playlists). I suspect the complex mix of lyrical and musical elements is what drew me to their sound.

Oh, and here is the official video for the song:

Book Of The Dead On Sale

So, let’s play “Game Of Bands” with Ohio’s Saintseneca (Game of Bands is where I mention 10 things about a band and you try to guess which things are true).

  1. The main songwriter for Saintseneca is named Zac Little
  2. The song was inspired by a friend’s cat named Remo
  3. Little says his last full album was about consciousness and physics
  4. Saintseneca have a song about the experience of hearing a Smashing Pumpkins song on the radio

5. One of the members of Saintseneca is also in a band called The Sidekicks

6. Zac Little also sells jewelry

7. Saintseneca records on the Anti- Record Label

8. The band is from the same town as “The” Ohio State University

9. The artwork for their Dark Arc album was based on the Four Horsemen of the apocalypse

10. Little likes Galaxie 500

Okay, I will tell you I got my answers from interviews from three different periods and that at least one question has a false answer.

Let me know what your guesses are #GameOfBands is a reference to the Game of Faces from George R.R. Martin’s series of books ‘A Song Of Ice and Fire.’
