Caitlin,
I am not the usual Dem/Prog, I actually respect other folks points of view and try to listen with as open a mind as I can.
For instance, we have both written a great deal about the massive civilian costs incurred by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I agree with you about that.
I have two respectful disagreements with you here:
- There are a large number of rational reasons for HRC to instigate discussions about 2016 (and on my side of the aisle, we should all be very concerned with committing to a serious cleaning of the decks). In other words, there are other reasons for HRC to be talking
2. POTUS has not exactly been great on the Foreign Policy, and I don’t just mean that from a “deep state” perspective. My background is in IR, and his Twitter diplomacy and approach towards diplomacy in general scares the HELL out of me. We can agree to disagree here, but it appears to me that he honestly has no background in International Relations and is not very interested in being educated. From his first, very bizarre, Tweets about the One China Policy to today’s response in London, his approach is unsettling to say the least.
Not meaning to be overly critical, I enjoy your writing and am not trying to start a fight. Just mild pushback :)
