Ahh yes, the my vote wouldn’t matter argument.

In a sense this is true, however, in State’s like mine (Michigan) it was not true (although many mistakenly thought that it was) and the idea that you concede that change in a state is impossible is certainly not borne out by, for instance, GOP inroads in what were known as “the Firewall” states.

But there is one much more powerful effect of your protest. Did you keep it entirely to yourself? Or did you talk about it to people in states that maybe did matter (say through social media)? Did you back the statements of people like Dr. Jill Stein who did have a massive effect in other states? Did you financially contribute to what ended up being a set of protest vote candidates who suppressed turnout in important states? If the answer to any of these questions was “yes” you can’t wash your hands.

None of this addresses the real issue I was addressing, trying to remind people that the people fomenting and leading the “protest” vote movement were likely agents of Trump, Russia, etc.
