Pretty strong week, not as “on fire” as last week, but still pretty strong. In case you are new to my style, I am a “digger.” In other words, you may not have heard of most of the bands that I highlight.
Generally, “I hate radio” (or, at least, what radio has become) and I don’t consider genre’s as fences (I see them as ingredients in a recipe — just something I can use to tell me if I might like the taste).
5. Sheer Mag — Need To Feel Your Love
Hard to argue with Sheer Mag, they could give two damns what anyone else thinks, they like playing dive bars, and occasionally they put out new material. Reliably excellent, like that shoe you find after you wake up from a bender.
4. Breakfast Muff — Eurgh!
Some sonic cleansing (unloading) from Scotland’s Breakfast Muff. Sure some of the politics might be a bit first-wave, but in the best possible way. Plus, good punk is supposed to be nakedly honest and maybe even ill-conceived (although in this instance I would just call it good and honest).
3. Pill — Aggressive Advertising
Great EP from the band Pill (there is obviously also PIL aka Public Image Limited and I kind of think there is another artist called Pill, so be careful to include the album title in the search). I am always looking for great new Punk stuff and this album really fit the bill for me earlier this week.
2. Guerilla Toss — GT Ultra
I think Guerilla Toss might be moving a bit more pop (I even hear a bit of B-52’s among the influences here) but they are still mostly batsh*t crazy. My advice would be just to let go of your expectations when you listen to GT and enjoy the results.
- Waxahatchee — Out In The Storm
Well, it shouldn’t take too much detective work to figure out that I dig the Crutchfield sisters and their incredibly prolific output over the last decade. This album takes me back to the 90’s (and I love that) and Katie’s lyrics just get better and better IMHO (the band is getting tighter too).
Okay, that’s it. Explore, Enjoy, and Share Music!
