This Months Spotify Playlist
Just Hit Play!
Lots of great Punk, Post-Punk, and Hip-Hop on this one…sorry electronic fans or ska fans, will try to include more next month.
Pardon me for a bit of Joe Strummer nostalgia in honor of the new Strummer boxset that just came out.
The Songs
- Give It To Me, Miya Folick, Give It To Me EP (Interscope, 2017)
Starts soft ends HUGE. Great way to start a playlist.
2. Squashed, No Age, Snares Like a Haircut (Drag City, 2018)
No Age are one of my favorite bands, realized the other day that I hadn’t pushed Snares Like a Haircut much. Mea Culpa.
3. The Games We Play, Pusha T, Daytona (GOOD Music, 2018)
Despite the dram with Drake and having the album produced by Kanye (and Kanye still makes great music), I am a huge fan of Pusha T (since Clipse) and this album is great.
4. Marijuanaut’s Theme, Sleep, The Sciences (Third Man Records, 2018)
For some reason, I haven’t done anything metal adjacent lately. I really like what I have heard from this band.
5. Shit Luck, Blanck Mass, Odd Scene/Shit Luck (Sacred Bones, 2018)
Blank Mass (and Fuck Buttons) have always hit me right in my wheelhouse for some reason. Plus I love that underneath the noise is always some scenery to enjoy.
6. Bad Saliva, Kagoule, Strange Entertainment (Alcopop!, 2018)
The more I hear of Kagoule, the more I love.
7. Fotos Y Recuerdos, Downtown Boys, Single (Sub Pop, 2018)
Combining music from The Pretenders with lyrics from Selena was unexpected. This double cover is pretty great. Can’t go wrong with Downtown Boys (and shouldn’t they be the soundtrack to all Progressive candidates? Make this happen).
8. Bus Money, The Chats, Get This In Ya (2017)
Love this album. The Chats are pretty great. Check it out!
9. Afraid of the Mirror, Pill, The Dull Tool Tapes (2018)
Big fan of this band too, they have shown up several times in recent years.
10. Twelve Divisions of the Day, Drahla, Single (Captured Tracks, 2018)
If you haven’t been listening to drahla, this is a single that was released after a recent great album. Take a deeper dive if you get the chance.
11. Accelerated, Flat Worms, Flat Worms (Text Me Records, 2017)
Flatworms are also a frequent guest on my playlists. Great stuff.
12. Dreams of Peace, Krimewatch, Krimewatch (Lockin’ Out Records, 2018)
I mean you have to have known I would love Krimewatch, right?
13. Dry Heat/Nice Town, Cheekface, Single (New Professor Music, 2018)
One of those really fun spoken ironic lyrics pieces. I need to see what else this band has put out.
14. My Contribution to this Scam, Jean Grae & Quelle Chris, Everything’s Fine (Mello Music Group, 2018)
By now you know I am a big Quelle Chris fan but the Jean Grae verse on this is OUTSTANDING. Also, this whole album is great.
15. Prove Yourself, Super Unison, Auto (Deathwish Inc., 2016)
I think I added this because I am ready for a new Super Unison album (please)
16. Spiked, Bilk, Single (Legion Records, 2018)
Just heard this recently…L O V E this song.
17. Edible Door, Lithics, Mating Surface (Kill Rock Stars, 2018)
I am a mark for Lithics. They can do no wrong as far as I am concerned. Close to the perfect Post-Punk band.
18. Judgment, Second Still, Second Still (Manic Depression Records, 2017)
Little more of a goth-feel but still pretty great post-punk here. If you haven’t checked them out, here is your chance. Can’t you hear just a little bit of Siouxsie and the banshees here?
19. BLL, Signal, Single (Ramp Local, 2018)
Another band I just heard for the first time and was blown away by, I am pretty much addicted to this song.
20. White Fur, Dear Nora, Skulls Example (Orindal Records, 2018)
Felt like this was a good change of pace song to break out of the post-punk part of the playlist. Good top down driving home after a bender song.
21. Let’s Follow (City Lights), Shark Toys, Labyrinths (In The Red, 2018)
Shark Toys are kind of amazing. This album is on fire. Great punk band…I think they only have one album but it is a really good album.
22. Silver Dollar, Versing, Single (Hardly Art, 2018)
Versing had one of my favorite albums of 2017. This is a good start for them in 2018 (glad they are continuing to put out new music).
23. London Is Burning, Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, Single (Ignition, 2018)
Okay, they are just putting out a new Joe Strummer box set and this is the first single. Joe Strummer is my spirit animal. So, I had to pay my respects.
